Russia stands accused of cyberattacks on UK politicians and journalists

Russia has compromised private correspondence of high-profile UK politicians and media figures, the British government has claimed.

As part of this, the Foreign Office announced that it had summoned the Russian ambassador after warning that hacking groups controlled by Russia’s FSB security service were behind unsuccessful attempts to interfere in the UK political process.

Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden has said that two members of the group “Star Blizzard” had been sanctioned following these revelations.

Russian authorities have not yet responded.
