Beach, sun, Messi and football. It doesn’t seem like your usual fair for a Superbowl ad, but this year, it really hit the sweet spot with viewers.
The combination of Lionel Messi-arguably the greatest footballer of all time-enjoying a kick about with actor Jason Sudekis and American football legend Dan Marino on a sunny beach, was enough to get American Beer Brand Michelob a 4.8 star rating from System1’s Test Your Ad system.

With the Super Bowl being one of America’s premier sporting events, and with Lionel Messi having recently brought football to national attention through his performances at Inter-Miami, it was perhaps not surprising that this ad did so well.
Add in its sunny backdrop, and the feeling of chilling with friends somewhere warm and friendly, in a contrast to the cold midwinter, and those watching the ad probably felt a hint of jealousy and a hint of desire for such a setting.
