Germany Is Pathetic

What is it about Germany that they always end up becoming dependent on the worst possible state? First there was Russia, and when the Germans eventually realised they’d made a mistake, instead of trying to avoid a similar problem cropping up, they moved onto the next Western devil. China.

Now as people converge on Munich for the world famous Munich Security Conference, concerns are high that they will be connecting their phones to Chinese telecoms equipment, which surrounds the venue. Potentially opening themselves up a whole world of hurt.

Investigations done by Politico show that the hotel where the conference is to be held is surrounded by telecommunications antennas. All of which are equipped with hardware supplied by Huawei, the controversial Chinese telecommunications giant.

New research has shown that Germany relies on Chinese tech for roughly 59% of its ongoing 5G network deployment. Which was on top of the 57% of Chinese tech that was used for their 4G network deployment.

As if that wasn’t concerning enough, Huawei, the company usually tasked with rolling out Chinese tech abroad, has been at the centre of numerous controversies. Including espionage cases involving the African Union and other important organisations.

Given the number of high profile attendees that will be at the conference including US Vice-President Kamala Harris, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, and the sensitive topics they will no doubt be discussing, this has to be alarming. Any sane person would be wary of holding such an important meeting in an area that is liable to be compromised from day dot.

With all this in mind, you might be wondering, why Germany has allowed something so concerning to happen. Well, one answer might be that their trade deficit with the Chinese has exploded, as the Germans move from a dependence on Russia for energy to depending on China to keep their car factories going and their people employed. Germany seems to always put economic priorities before national security concerns. They did it under Merkel with energy, and now it seems we are seeing them do it with China and telecommunications.

Will they ever learn? Who knows.
